5 Whys

I am trying the 5 Whys technique to resolve a deep-seated belief about money. Please help me Question my responses one by one.

Scenario : I feel Guilt and pain for using my own money even for simple things, thinking someone might need them more and that I should provide.

The 5 Whys technique works best when we peel back one layer at a time without rushing ahead.

Starting Statement:

"I feel guilt and pain spending money on simple things for myself because I believe someone else might need it more and I should provide for them."

Why #1: Why do you feel personally responsible for providing for or solving the unmet needs of others before meeting your own basic or simple needs?

I don't feel that money is my own nor my need as a need; rather, it feels as if because I have money, I want to spend. Providing for someone makes me feel satisfied in my being. And Providing for someone makes me feel satisfied in my being.

Why #2: Why does money feel like it does not truly belong to you, and why do you view your personal needs as mere impulses rather than legitimate requirements?
I fear own-ing Money, growing-up I felt I am a burden to my family and possibly I am trying to pay back which I also know I cannot. I fear that having too many needs makes one feel weak when time comes

Why #3: Why does acknowledging your own basic needs feel like a dangerous weakness or vulnerability, and what do you fear will happen if you stop trying to "earn" your place by paying back that unpayable debt?

growing-up parents fights over money became a trauma for me and I felt if i express my needs it might distance them more or say if I save money by not having needs, it might help to save a bond of love.
Somewhere I believe Money safeguards a bond or a love between two people or else they depart

Why #4: Why does a part of you still believe that love and connection are so fragile that they depend on you erasing your own needs, and why does spending money on yourself feel like a threat to the safety of your relationships?
Because someone will get hurt or feel bad and I didn't want that.
People with money felt a threat to my Dad's (struggling to meet ends) image as I saw mom (coming from a affluent family) comparing. Spending casually felt like I am betraying my loved ones who doesn't have money...and a guilt will takeover me and will pinch me deep

Why #5: Why do you carry the subconscious belief that staying in financial self-denial is the only way to remain loyal to your father's struggle, and why does thriving independently feel like an act of betrayal rather than simply living your own life?
I was a child when I experience this and financial self-denial was the only way I could support my Dad/ Mom. Thriving independently reminds me that somewhere someone might be getting compared and relationships may be getting damaged.

You have reached the core of the 5 Whys.
What started as a surface belief—guilt over buying simple things because someone else might need it more—was never actually about money or the strangers who might need it.
As a child caught between your parents' conflict, you developed an extraordinary coping mechanism: you made yourself small, erased your personal needs, and adopted financial self-denial as an invisible shield to protect your father's dignity and preserve your family's bond.
To your subconscious, spending on yourself equated to aligning with the "threat" that hurt your dad, while giving away or withholding money felt like the only way to remain loyal, safe, and loved.

The Core Realization

The Childhood Truth: Erasing your needs was a brilliant survival strategy for a powerless child trying to keep love intact.

The Present Reality: You are no longer that helpless child. Taking care of your basic needs today does not diminish your father, betray your family, or break existing relationships.

The Shift: You do not have to stay in struggle or self-denial to prove your loyalty to the people you love.

Never

The 'later' which became never...
slowly but steadily.

The wait - in a hope to meet...
Which became endless unfulfilled moments filled with intentional distractions...
...
A fact, a fate, a choice, a pain, a mistake, a suffering, a yearning, a familiarity...

The previlege of a conversation

These days, our meetings have become a rare occurrence. His days are mostly spent in hospitals, attending to his ailing mother. During one such rare meeting at a café: Me: "How are you?" He (with reddish, tired, sleep-deprived eyes and a forced smile): "I am doing okay... Let's discuss something else." Me: (Instantly, like a radio, I start throwing out all the details of) my life—work, new learnings, family, travel—endlessly. Even in my detachment, every bit of my being feels a deep need to care for him, hoping this light banter might offer a moment of easy distraction. I held his hand and pressed his palms, assuring him that all would be well. He (opening up): "Seeing both parents suffer, one after the other, takes its own toll..." I nodded in agreement. After a comfortable pause, I asked: Me: "What is your relationship with relationships?" He: "Frankly, I don't know... I am still learning. One of my past-life regressions revealed I was a monk and a warrior. In this life, I have never had anyone around for very long... Except for you." Me (feeling a deep sense of ease and gratitude for his honesty, rawness, and surrender): "Then why am I still here? What role am I meant to play?" He: "I don't know, but I believe it's something from the past. Dad once said a girl from the north would be a big pillar of support..." Me: "Hmm... I’m glad you’re aware and true to yourself. All the way on my ride to the café, I was wondering about that exact question." Our conversation drifted on for another few minutes over herbal tea. What surprised me most was the profound ease in my being—no judgment, no security seeking, no rush to anchor where I belong. Perhaps I have simply accepted my life’s course as it is. I have lived—or chosen to live—numerous such battles alongside him throughout his life. At times, it exhausted me and deprived me of a traditional partnership, but every season was teaching me something deeper. It is a privilege when a relationship can move from Nothing to Something to Nothing again—consciously. For me, it has become a act of service: to be the quiet witness of a soul unfolding, seeing a man in control of his senses, a devoted son, a friend in need, a safety net, and a fearless being... who sometimes just needs to be reminded that he is loved, thought of, respected, and worthy of ease.

Echoes of Presence

Deeds of heart vs mind

Many times, a pattern repeats itself in life, leaving us to wonder what our response should be.

Should we follow the heart or the mind?

The mind projects into the future, often driven by fear and worry. The heart, however, lives only in the present—it asks simply whether a decision brings ease to a burdened life or offers someone that much-needed breather to keep going.

Recently, I found myself in just such a situation. I went through deep emotional and mental churning—journaling, meditating, seeking blessings at the temple, and relying on my breath to quiet the noise. I even reached out to my cousin brother to ensure I wasn't acting purely out of ungrounded emotion.

His response was a blessing: If you have the capacity to support someone in need—someone capable, yet caught in life’s storms—do it. Consider it a clearing of past karmic debts. Act from the heart, with zero expectation of return or outcome.

I had asked the Supreme for a sign, asking to be guided toward the right deed, to surrender, and to operate with detached awareness: I am the soul, the observer, not the doer.

Then, I heard Krishna's flute. To me, that was all the answer I needed. 🪷

Long Rides

However much I feel stagnant in my personal life, riding on my bike on long route... be it alleys or broadways makes me feel in control of it.

Atleast, I am always sure of the direction of my ride inspite of no destination on my mind.

I feel a different kind of liberation, maybe it's the after effects of wind blowing on my face and my hairs and some ideologies that my mind would have gathered from all the Bollywood cinemas...

I noticed my thoughts starts to flow, they open-up and doesn't not sabotage within.

I made it a point to find a reason to ride... Refueling , getting Lunch, some grocery, veggies or fruits shopping or even finding a ground to walk barefoot... Or just to sleep under a tree at a nearby lake temple..

After a long time, probably the weather also played a big role here, I loved my ride today.. So mundane, unplanned but it filled my heart with joy, I felt as if my body left all of the bottled up emotions and is free now...

And after returning home I took a deep nap 😴 as if I am the Alice in my own wonderland

🛵😜🪄

fueled by memories gathered across lives—

Dakshin Chitra 🪷

Sometimes being at a space you feel home at..
Doing things that may look meaningless or useless (when seeking outwardly validation)...
Being in nature and with it's pace with surrender at the core of heart and to the effort,
Brings eternal joy and ease ...
Breaks away Ego...
Give moments of deep breaths and deep questions to reflect at..
Makes one aware about the desires and flow of life...

Thank you to Vande Bharat which got me there and which waited ~9mins for me to be able to board at the 9th min....

11.29 pm

And I can spend a whole day at a coffee shop!
Just like that...

While waiting for a friend to drive me down to another nearby city, I completed my two hours classes, drank a hibiscus tea, gulped 150 gms of roasted cashews, chatted with Dad, paid my bills and even looks for stay options but my friend dint show-up yet...

I don't know to be mad or just be neutral because I had personally not expressed any preference here... But having checked-out at 11 in the morning and since then being on the go exhausted me :(

Well, let's just focus on what worked in my favour:

1. I spent the majority of my day at a place I so wanted to be.

2. Spent an hour painting.🎨 🖌️

3. Some cotton kaftan shopping. 💖

4. Soft dosa and hot idli for late lunch/ dinner.

5. Attended my classes (din't miss).

6. Pondered over my emotions... Ego

7. Some more shopping gifts

8. Boarded the car but...we are waiting as she needs to finish editing a reel and upload (And this is actually irritating me now... but what do I do ... just be...focus on my internal environment).

And probably high time I practice driving 🥺😔😭😭.

--

I tell myself Breath baby, breath...your beach is calling you home 💕🙏🌊

And hopefully I stay close to it ...🤞

--
12.36 am the friend is sleepy and we are looking for options to stay !!

(no or say Decent hotels  available)
--
1.29am 1hr. 11min (60 kms) away from destination 😂....
In intrest of my safety, I am more awake than required of me...

And we have no hotel booked yet ..
--
1.43 am, we pulled over near a dhaba and the car is our dorm

Staring at the sunroof... waiting for moon to appear in the frame ..

I bid myself a good/ Goof night😴

And just when I was about to shut my phone and eyes ...I saw someone appearing ... straight in the line of my sight...up above 💖🌕

And...
At 5:24 AM we check-in!! Far off from the beach (which my heart knows it as home) but to an experience different from what is known and comfortable...

Isn't is what builds flexibility... ? Will ride to my beach :)🛵

Good morning, Girl 💕
